Direct Stone Carving for Beginners (Adult class)
June 12 - August 7, 2019
In this 3 month workshop, students will be introduced to 4 primary stone working techniques including Carving, Sanding, Polishing, and Mounting. Students will experience small class sizes and instructor led step-by-step demonstrations by our very own 3D art expert, Marina Smelik. Students of all physical strengths are able to successfully do this stone carving project. By the end of the course, each student will have completed and can take home an impressive stone carving they’ll be proud to put on full display.

Instructor: Marina Smelik
Students will start the class by sketching a decorative sculpture design of their choosing (or one can be recommended to them). They will then learn how to bring their idea to life by carving it into soft Alabaster stone. Students will have access to various hand-tools including hammers, chisels, rifers, and files so they can carve, sand, polish, and mount their sculpture. By the end of the course, each student will complete one stone sculpture they can take home.
Note: Students are responsible for purchasing their own mounting bases directly from an online vendor (we’re happy to make recommendations), and will need to bring their own goggles, mask, gloves, and an old towel.
